We are all made of the same Engergy

I stand corrected. apparently the election process isn’t as rigged as I thought it was. Like any rationalist, now that I have new evidence, I must adjust my worldview accordingly. That leaves me with the conclusion that “the people,” or at least a majority of the ones who vote have elected Donald Trump to be their next president.

Like I said in my previous post, I do not see either candidate as a good option. So, while I am disappointed, I would be almost equally disappointed if Hillary had won. But since she did not, that has proved to me that the system isn’t quiet as corrupted as I had thought. That is a little encouraging. That means that it can be changed for the better. I’m not saying it will be easy, but at least we have something to work with.

I just came from a ‘prayer meeting’ at our local church. There were a lot of shocked and angry people there. I can’t blame them. They fear that Trump will wreck the progress that they have fought for, and they have fought. This church has members that were involved in the civil rights struggles of the sixties, and are quiet active in current civil rights battles with the LGBT community. They (and all of us) have a lot to lose.

However, this is not a hostile takeover. Trump has been chosen. He has been chosen by a hell of a lot of people who are equally afraid. They are afraid of losing their jobs in a poorly managed economy. They are afraid of terrorism. And, they are afraid of losing their cultural identity with the flurry of change that has recently come. The very things that we see as progress (marriage equality, amnesty for undocumented immigrants, the legalization of marijuana, ect.), they see as the corruption of the very core of their national identity, and a threat to their personal security.

The end result of all this is that you have a nation deeply, deeply divided, and each side unwilling to talk to the other. This is a big problem. We can’t afford to fuck around with all this. We simply don’t have the time. There are several doomsday scenarios looming over our heads at the moment, and the clock is ticking. If we as a species do not learn to settle our differences and work for the highest good of all, real quick, we may be doomed.

We cannot get where we need to go without a good margin of the Trump voters getting on the same page. This means that we will have to reach out to them and find common ground. Like Marshall Rosenberg says, “we are all made of the same energy and have the same needs.” We have to meet them at the level of our mutual needs, and quickly.

Choose the form of the Destroyer

It is almost midnight, and America is still in the process of choosing a new president. I have held off on this post as long as possible. It’s looking like Donald Trump will become our next (gag)… leader.

I proudly cast my vote over a week ago for Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party. To me it is equally disappointing that either of these people will be elected. If Trump wins I will have to reevaluate my belief that the election is completely rigged. If Hillary wins this will confirm that belief. We will see. Either way, we all loose tonight.

The election reminds me of the scene from Ghostbusters where Gozer demands that the Ghostbusters choose the form of the Destroyer. “Choose and perish.” This night we will choose our fate… a neo-liberal sellout to the corporate elite, or a half-unspooled fascist wannabe. This should be interesting.

Good night, and good luck.

Vacation on the Eve of Destruction

Tomorrow is going to be a great day. No, no… not because the United States will elect a new president. Given the options, that’s going to make for  a horrible day. No, it will be a great day because I only have to work for half the day, and then I am off for the rest of the week!

Of course we will most certainly be watching the election tomorrow night. It’s kind of hard to not watch a train wreck as it’s happening. I’m probably going to spend the time reflecting on how I should interact with the political world in the future. I think I am going to stay with the Green Party. They have a really good platform, and don’t seem to be sold out like the big two. I am also going to make a better effort to understand local politics. I was embarrassed to admit how little I know about the structure and players of my local political scene. It’s not an easy thing for me. While I do have a strong interest in how we arrive at decisions as a people, I have very little interest in the popularity contest that is modern politics.

In other news, I am almost finished with Walden Two. It has been a fascinating book. I look forward to writing a review of it. Walden Two is the book that the Twin Oaks community in Virginia was originally based on.

That’s all I have for tonight. I’ll talk to you all tomorrow as we get the Apocalypse underway. Good night.

Don’t let the Presidency go to Shit

Well, early voting has begun. This has been the craziest election cycle that I recall, and the first one where I have actually given half a shit. Denice and I spent many hours volunteering, phone-banking, face-banking, and giving of our hard-earned money to Bernie Sanders. I don’t regret any of it. It was a great experience and a valuable leaning opportunity. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed. Bernie represented a real change, a true departure from the status quo. I know he probably believes that endorsing Hillary was the only option that he had, given the impending horror of a Trump presidency. I don’t blame him. In fact, I am grateful for the renewed sense of hope for the future that he has given me.

I for one do not endorse Hillary Clinton. That does not mean that I approve of Donald Trump… far from it. I cannot endorse someone of her low moral character for the job of president. This has nothing to do with her being female, but everything to do with her corruption and complicity with the corporate interests that are hell-bent on destroying this biosphere and our future as a species.

For me, there is only one person still in this race that I can throw my unbridled support behind, and that is Dr. Jill Stein. Jill is the Green Party nominee, and she is amazing. She is intelligent, strong-willed, and morally above reproach. I have seen many of her videos, and have no doubt that she would mop the floor with either Hillary or Donald in a fair debate, but that won’t happen. She is bared from the “official debates.” It’s a shame too, because most Americans aren’t even aware that there are more choices than the two pathetic options that we are presented with.

I know what you’re thinking… “But Jill is third-party, and she CAN’T win.” I don’t care. I am done, D.O.N.E. with being bullied into chosing the supposed lesser of the two evils. I’m done with chosing evil. I am voting for the greater good. I like Jill Stein, and there is not a better person in whose hands I would intrust the fate of this nation and world.

However, these are just my humble opinions. Feel free to make up your own mind. If you want to know more about my champion, check out her website: Jill2016.com
