It is almost midnight, and America is still in the process of choosing a new president. I have held off on this post as long as possible. It’s looking like Donald Trump will become our next (gag)… leader.
I proudly cast my vote over a week ago for Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party. To me it is equally disappointing that either of these people will be elected. If Trump wins I will have to reevaluate my belief that the election is completely rigged. If Hillary wins this will confirm that belief. We will see. Either way, we all loose tonight.
The election reminds me of the scene from Ghostbusters where Gozer demands that the Ghostbusters choose the form of the Destroyer. “Choose and perish.” This night we will choose our fate… a neo-liberal sellout to the corporate elite, or a half-unspooled fascist wannabe. This should be interesting.
Good night, and good luck.
I’m sure many of you share the sentiment that it will be a relief when this screwed up presidential election is over. It has been a rough road. If I have learned anything from this fiasco it is that power truly concedes nothing without a demand. We all know Bernie was screwed out of the Democratic nomination. I don’t want to get into all that that entails, except to recognize one thing… if change is ever going to happen, it is almost certainly not going to come out of either of the two corporate parties. They are both equally corrupted.
In two days “we” will elect Hillary Clinton as president of the United States. Let’s face it, Trump doesn’t have any more of a chance than Bernie Sander did. Hillary has been chosen by the economic elite to be their stooge. She has proven that she is a team player, and will do as she is told, all the while making the masses feel that they have someone in office who is sympathetic to their needs. Trump, of course, was just a useful boogeyman, and that’s all he has ever been.
Something that Jill Stein says that has really stuck with me is that “we are the ones we have been waiting on.” If there will be progressive change in the future it is going to come through us, and not the top down political system. We must be the change that we want to see in the world. If enough of us get on board with making the world a better place, then the forces arrayed against us will not be able to stop us.
A better world is possible. There is no technical reason why all of humanity cannot enjoy a high standard of living, without war or poverty, and at the same time restore the biosphere to a healthy state. No, the problems are not technical, they are due to a systemic value disorder in society. This is the natural result when profit and power trumps (no pun intended) all other metrics for success. If we are to survive, this shit has to go, as Jacque Fresco says.
So, Hillary Clinton aside, I am going to choose people and planet over profit and power. There is another kind of power to be had. Instead of Power Over, we can have Power With. Together, we can change things. Together, nothing can stop us.
Sorry for the ranting and dreaming. It’s one of those nights.
I have been making the mistake of staying up late every night this week, and getting progressively more tired every morning. This particular morning, it almost bit me in the ass. I must have hit snooze five or six times. By the time I reluctantly crawled out of bed, I was running way late. Luckily for me I don’t “have to” eat breakfast, so I was able to get dressed, walk and feed the dogs, and race NASCAR style to work. I made it by the skin of my teeth.
Work went much better today. I got off almost on time, which allowed me to get a good workout in. I have to say, I feel absolutely great. These regular resistance workouts are making a difference. I’m up to fifteen push-ups now. Sure, that’s not a lot for most people, but most people aren’t two hundred and fifty pounds.
Today I did a circuit of push-ups, crunches, dips, kettlebell squats, and dumbbell curls. I did the circut twice, with virtually no rest. It got my heart rate up and gave my muscles a good go. This only took about fifteen minutes. Tomorrow is my weekly weigh in day, and I’ll be interested to see if the excercise has moved the needle a little more that usual.
Ah, and tomorrow Denice and I are voting. I, personally, am casting my lot for Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party. I know she isn’t going to win, but the goal at this point is to get her the 5% of the vote that she needs to qualify the Green Party for federal matching funds. This will mean millions of dollars for the 2020 campaign. I love what the Green Party stands for, and want to do all I can to help make it a viable option for the future.
For now though, it is Friday night, and Denice and I are chilling on the couch. Tomorrow the weekend begins. I feel the elation welling up inside already.
Well, early voting has begun. This has been the craziest election cycle that I recall, and the first one where I have actually given half a shit. Denice and I spent many hours volunteering, phone-banking, face-banking, and giving of our hard-earned money to Bernie Sanders. I don’t regret any of it. It was a great experience and a valuable leaning opportunity. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed. Bernie represented a real change, a true departure from the status quo. I know he probably believes that endorsing Hillary was the only option that he had, given the impending horror of a Trump presidency. I don’t blame him. In fact, I am grateful for the renewed sense of hope for the future that he has given me.
I for one do not endorse Hillary Clinton. That does not mean that I approve of Donald Trump… far from it. I cannot endorse someone of her low moral character for the job of president. This has nothing to do with her being female, but everything to do with her corruption and complicity with the corporate interests that are hell-bent on destroying this biosphere and our future as a species.
For me, there is only one person still in this race that I can throw my unbridled support behind, and that is Dr. Jill Stein. Jill is the Green Party nominee, and she is amazing. She is intelligent, strong-willed, and morally above reproach. I have seen many of her videos, and have no doubt that she would mop the floor with either Hillary or Donald in a fair debate, but that won’t happen. She is bared from the “official debates.” It’s a shame too, because most Americans aren’t even aware that there are more choices than the two pathetic options that we are presented with.
I know what you’re thinking… “But Jill is third-party, and she CAN’T win.” I don’t care. I am done, D.O.N.E. with being bullied into chosing the supposed lesser of the two evils. I’m done with chosing evil. I am voting for the greater good. I like Jill Stein, and there is not a better person in whose hands I would intrust the fate of this nation and world.
However, these are just my humble opinions. Feel free to make up your own mind. If you want to know more about my champion, check out her website: Jill2016.com
